Peoples Institute Crop for web

August 30-September 4, 2016

Inspired by the Chautauqua education movement of the turn of the century, the People's Institute annually offers six full days of rich programs combining elements of both adult and kids camp,  weaving together educational, entertainment, and cooperative experiences for people of all ages.

This year's Institute explores topics based on the theme of Climate Justice. Children's activities and time for R&R will be included.

Peoples Institute 2015

People and organizations all over the world are responding to climate change with positive solutions for our families, co-workers, communities, students and countries.

Join us for People’s Institute to learn how to enhance justice by empowering all people.

We will learn from each other-

Gain and practice new tools for organizing and empowering people.

Engage in the arts to equip us for the work ahead.

Our planet’s climate is changing fast.  Heat Waves, floods, rising seas, droughts, extreme storms, increasingly food, housing and water shortages, new and old diseases are breaking out all over the world.

Those least responsible for climate change in both the Global South and North are the most affected by its devastation.

We have seen more racial, immigrant, religious and social injustice, wars, disenfranchised people, and disrupted communities.

Our governments have utterly failed to do anything to stop the onslaught.

The corporations, who control our governments, are only concerned with more profits by increased fossil fuel extraction and burning at the expense of people and all living things on Mother Earth.

The People and Mass Movements/Blockadia are standing up and fighting to make our planet a better, more just place to live.

We want to respond to climate change with cooperation and compassion.

Participate in discussions and network with people engaged in climate change, food justice, public transportation, renewable energy, racial, immigrant and social justice, and the worldwide battle to keep Carbon/Fossil Fuels in the Ground, including the Oil/Tar Sands Pipeline, Fracking and Bomb Trains

Included will be discussions of community and worker energy, food and transportation cooperatives and unions for energy democracy

Help us build a network of people and organizations throughout the Midwest and beyond to mobilize for action.

There will be time in the schedule for leisure and social activities.  Our kitchen will provide homemade, locally-sourced meals.

People’s Institute is primarily for adults but we welcome teens who come with a parent or adult who will supervise.

There will be activities for younger children. Please let the office know by August 1 that people under 18 will be coming so we can make appropriate plans.
